JCU Men’s Soccer Leaves a Mark Against LCU. Lady Gladiators Win and Advance to Second-Round Semifinals

The Universities of Rome Championship is about the end, and our teams are readier than ever. Both our Men’s Soccer and Women’s Futsal teams conquered two epic victories last night. Keep reading to find out more about the two matches…

MEN’S SOCCER

Last night, our Men’s Soccer Team achieved the impossible by winning a very difficult game against a competitive team such as Link Campus University.

Our Gladiators gave everything they could and left their heart on the field. After losing the first round of semifinals last week, our Gladiators were able to reverse the result in this game by scoring three amazing goals. Unfortunately, JCU missed the chance to qualify for the Finals for one single score, which went wasted towards the end of the game. However, JCU proved to be a great team with a great mind who knows how to work together.

“I want to congratulate with each one of the player. They all played an excellent game, and they gave their best until the very last minute,” coach Riccardo Concari said at the end of the game. “We deserved to go to Finals!”

“There’s little regret, of course. But the road that our Gladiators have walked so far has been terrific!” Assistant Coach Ion Marian continued. “It’s an amazing group who knows when it’s time to show the right determination. They know the rules and have worked hard to get where they are now. All the players have improved a lot, especially in the last month, playing really good games and putting into difficulty even the more qualified teams.”

Our Gladiators celebrating their victory after the game

For this game, our coaches decided to award the Most Valuable Player to the entire team because they all gave their 100%. Congratulations, Gladiators! We are really proud of you!
But don’t lose the focus now because next week, you will have to play and attempt to win a well-deserved third place that can reward all your efforts and hard work!

WOMEN’S FUTSAL

It was a positive night for our Women’s Futsal team, as well, who won the first round of semifinals against Progetto Fiumicino, paving the way for a supposedly easier second-round game next week.

“The first half of the game ended in a draw with our Lady Gladiators missing the chance to score a few goals to secure the match,” coach Paola Farina commented. “The second half of the game started with opposing team getting the lead, but our Lady Gladiators didn’t give up and fiercely reacted. Thanks to some intelligent and quick play moves, the game changed in favor of our ladies who scored four goals one after the other and won the match.”

Congratulations, Lady Gladiators! You never let us down and always prove to be an excellent team. Congrats to Sarah Castellano, as well, for receiving the Most Valuable Player recognition. Good job!
Keep up with good work, ladies!
