We have known since the beginning that Fall 2018 would represent an important semester for our Department, and last night, the moment finally came to reveal what we have been working on for the past few months: the restyinling and revealing of the new JCU Athletics Gladiators Logo.
And what better night to present it than during our annual Gladiators Night to kick off our Sports Season and introduce all of our varsity team members to JCU community.
The event was a success! Thank you to our President, Franco Pavoncello, Valentina De Blasi, Dean of Students, and Giovanni Raguso, President of JCU Student Government for your lovely and inspiring speeches. Thanks to JCU Student Life for all their constant support, to all of our team players and coaches, and to everyone who came.
Special thanks go, as well, to our Athletics Coordinators Marco Iorio and Alessandro Sabelli who, seven years ago, took over the Athletics Department and turned it into a real department with many sports activities for everyone.
Other great news also came later from Trastevere Stadium where our Men’s Soccer and Men’s Soccer 5vs5 Teams played two friendly games respectively against Europea di Roma and Polo Didattico Bambin Gesù. The opponents were quite tough, but both of our teams gained the upper hand and brought home two important victories.
JCU Men’s Soccer defeated Europea 3-2 with the goals of Brooks Hoffman, Ian Pratt, and Cairo Davoli. “I am positively surprised by the great improvements that this team is making week by week,” JCU Athletics Coordinator Marco Iorio comments. “I think this year, the team has all the requirements to play an excellent Season like ever before.”
JCU Men’s Soccer 5vs5 won, instead, 6-5 against Polo Didattico Bambin Gesù. Andrea Palazzi scored three goals, Fernando Royuela scored two, and Ricardo Solano scored one. Our Gladiators showed outstanding athletics skills and determination, qualities that will sure be of great use for our International Tournament in Barcelona in one month.
Congratulations, Gladiators! And congrats to the respective coaches for your good work!
