Championship Finals

Last week was a very intense one for our Gladiators. Our Men’s Soccer team was engaged in the final phase of the championship, quarter-finals in a single match against Erasmus. Play-offs reached with great merit and determination, following a historic comeback by our boys who with 5 consecutive victories had brought themselves to fourth position, only behind the prestigious Foro Italico, Luiss and Link.

A quarter-final that boded well for our university, but unfortunately saw our boys lacking experience and at times overwhelmed by emotions and excessive tension. The Erasmus team instead proved to be more carefree and faced the game with a greater determination and conviction of their own means.
The final result of 2-1 in fact rewards the visiting team, despite JCU having become very dangerous on several occasions in the final stages of the game, also claiming a penalty kick and a goal denied, in the opinion of the referee, on the goal line by the opposing goalkeeper.
Despite the disappointment, coach Marian said he was very satisfied with the work done and the progress shown by the boys. Athletics Coordinator Marco Iorio finally added that this result, despite being cruel, shows how determination and passion from coaches are key to achieving good sports goals, and thanks coach Marian and Franceschi for their dedication and work this season.

Today eyes are focused on the three playoff matches of women’s soccer teams, who will play the semifinals at Sapienza, Volleyball that will play a very important semifinal at Lumsa’s home ground, and basketball which will also play the semifinal against Università Europea, with return scheduled for next Wednesday at San Paolo.
Good luck to our Gladiators!
