On Friday, October 23rd JCU Gladitor’s were finally able to participate in the first in-person intramural event of the semester. Five individuals; Niccolo Volpe, Fausto Perez, Francesco Felici, alumno Abdul Aboushwesha and staff member Alessandro Fucile, competed tirelessly against one another in a 1 vs. 1 Tennis Tournament at Emila De Vialar.
Beginning with two qualifying groups, the five challenged one another towards victory. The competitors were evenly matched, but Abdul was able to pull out a win over Francesco for 3rd place, leaving Alessandro and Niccolo rivals for the 1st place medal. Ultimately, Niccolo was defeated and Alessandro took home the Gold & obvious bragging rights.
“It was nice to be back on court, we hope to have more tournaments in the future and especially outside.” said Alessandro. Due to the new Covid-19 policy, JCU Athletics has to reinvent the activities to insure safety with our students. “We were so happy to be able to offer this tournament and have a sense of normalcy. We are doing everything we can to come up with new, safe and exciting events for this semester” said Athletic Coordinator Alessandro Sabelli.
