JCU Men’s Soccer Amazes at First Official Game Against UER

A night to remember for our JCU Men’s Soccer team that opens up the Universities of Rome Championship with an incredible victory, 2-1, and three precious points that give confidence to our Gladiators.

JCU faces Università Europea di Roma (UER) in their first game of the 2019-2020 Season. Our players show to be real Gladiators out on the field, fighting from the first minute of the game until the final whistle blow.

In the first half, the two teams play a balanced game with different occasions from both sides, but it is JCU player De Simone who is able to unblock the situation with a great goal. The first half ends with a 1-0 lead from JCU.

During the second half, our Gladiators seem a little out of focus and commit a few mistakes that allow UER to tie the result. JCU doesn’t give up, and the last minutes of the game become very intense with dynamic plays from both teams. However, JCU forward Giorgio Castellani realizes an incredible action. He runs straight from the midfield towards the opponents’ area and score the winning goal.

“Tonight, we faced a team that mainly uses a very competitive and intese play, and that put us into difficulty in some occasions. We didn’t perform as better as in our pre-Season games in technical terms, but we definitely showed great character and determination that help us win anyway,” coach Concari commented.

Congratulations, Gladiators! We are proud of you! Now keep the good work and get ready for next game!

Before the game, we also had a special night at our annual Pep Rally where we officially presented all of our varsity-team players. JCU President Franco Pavoncello, Assistant Dean of Students Ariana Damaske, Director of Student Services Pilar Murguia, President of Student Government Carlos Salas, and our Athletics Coordinator Marco Iorio spent beautiful words of encouragement to all of our Gladiators for the beginning of the Season.

Our team captains were also called upon stage to read and sign the sportsmanship oath.

The night ended with an incredible performance of our Cheerleading team who entertained all and make us want to dance too. Congratulations!

Thanks to all those who came celebrating our teams last night, and thanks to JCU administration for the constant support.
