Last night, the Universities of Rome Championship finally opened up its curtains for our Coed Volleyball team who immediately had to face a valid opponent in their first game.
JCU played against Università Cattolica Sacro Cuore (UCSC), a well-prepared team who was just coming out from another victory against La Sapienza two days ago. Our Gladiators tried their best and showed some good plays, but it was not enough to defeat their rivals who ultimately won the game 3-0.
UCSC took the lead soon enough in the game and dominated the first and second set, 25-12 and 25-15. In the third set, JCU showed some reaction and didn’t let their rivals taking an easy last-set win, which ended 25-17.
“As far as our current potential, we played really well tonight against a solid team,” coach Papari commented. “We are a new team, and we only have been training together for three weeks, and we paid the price. Despite the clear result, ours was not a complete a failure because we gave our best.”
“Of course, we still have a lot to work on different aspects, and we need to train a lot, but I’m satisfied with my players,” Papari concluded.
So keep working hard, Gladiators!
