Fall 17′ Sapri Weekend Trip Recap!

The JCU Athletics Department has officially begun the Fall 2017 semestr with the Sapri Weekend Trip, the first of many organized by our team!

Despite the early wake up, the Gladiators arrived in Sapri full of energy and enjoyed a four-hour boat trip along the coast of Basilicata with Gianni, our captain. We experienced sailing and snorkeling in the turquoise, crystal-clear water of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Before going back to our fantastic B&B La Spigolatrice to get some rest, our Gladiators dined with a typical Neapolitan-style pizza at the Pizza House.

Ready for a new day, the Gladiators hiked in the untouched landscape of the WWF Oasis Grotte del Bussento, famous for its natural beauty. The cold temperature of the river did not stop the Gladiators to jump into the water and swim in the stunning cave in Morigerati!

Guided by the former kayaking world champion Paolo Bifano, our next event was kayaking down the Bussento River! Although it started to rain in the midst of our down stream adventure, the rain didn’t stop our students to have fun and play! After some downtime and a shower, we all went to dinner downtown and enjoyed the local and tasty dishes of the Taberna Do Mar!

On Sunday, our friend Gilardo guided the Gladiators to hike along the picturesque coast of Sapri and visit the Grotta della Colonna. The bravest ones did not miss out on the opportunity to have a swim in a stunning caletta along the way, playing in the waves..

Before leaving, Gerardo and Elena offered our Gladiators a yummy snack of homemade delicious cakes and fresh local fruit.

A special thanks to everyone who participated in this amazing trip: our lovely hosts, tour guides, and to our very adventurous students!

If you missed the Sapri Weekend Trip, there are plenty of opportunities this semester left for other trips organized by JCU Athletics! Check them out on this page!
