We Never Stop Learning: JCU Athletics Staff Trained on Anaphylaxis Emergency Response

At JCU Athletics, we believe that staying ready means staying informed—and that learning never truly ends.

That’s why continuous professional development is one of the pillars of our department’s commitment to excellence, both on and off the field.

Earlier this week, our Athletics staff participated in a specialized training session focused on recognizing and managing anaphylactic shock, a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. The workshop was led by the highly experienced Doc. Andrea Guerrero, who guided the team through key procedures and emergency protocols.

The hands-on training provided our team with the knowledge and confidence to act swiftly in the event of an allergic emergency, ensuring the safety of our students during sports activities and sports trips, our student-athletes, fans, and the broader JCU community. From identifying early warning signs to properly administering life-saving treatments, the session reinforced the importance of preparedness in any sports setting.

“Emergencies don’t give you a heads-up,” said one staff member. “This training gave us not only the tools but also the presence of mind to handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively.”

We’re incredibly grateful to Dr. Guerrero for sharing his expertise and for empowering our team with critical life-saving skills. Workshops like these go far beyond athletics—they reflect our ongoing mission to build a safer, stronger, and more responsive community.

Because when it comes to health and safety, we never stop learning.
