On Sunday, April 7th, our JCU Running Team participated in the event “Run for Autism”, organized by Progetto Filippide, an inclusive race with neurotypical runners along with runners with the autistic spectrum and people with other disabilities.
The event, aimed at raising money for autism research, saw the participation of more that 3500 people, including over 800 people with the autistic spectrum all over Italy.
We took part in the 10k non-competitive run, which started at 9:30am.
The running route was very inspiring: we started in Piazza Bocca della Verità, continuing in Piazza Venezia and Fori Imperiali, the Colosseum and Circo Massimo, then repeating the route again finishing where we started.
Our gladiators running team was composed of 11 participants: Running team leaders Nicholas Modlin and Michaela Salzman; Athletics staff Sarah Jane Sabelli; Housing Residence Director Ferdinando D’Elia; students Eric Linari, Kian De La Fuente, Teresa Lima, Mencía Casas Neo, Meredith Brooks, Sofia Espinosa, Francesco Borniquez.
Our running team leaders, Nicholas Modlin and Michaela Salzman, completed the race outstandingly, with a running time of respectively 38’16’’ and 46’30’’.
Overall, our team did really good, with a maximum running time of 1h15’, completing the run among the first 1500 athletes, thus also winning the souvenir medals!
In conclusion, we wanted to thank all gladiators who took part in this very important event, showing their effort in raising awareness about autism research.
Don’t miss out on our next sports event “Komen Race” on Sunday May 12th, a 5k non-competitive and 10k competitive run aimed at raising money for scientific research on breast cancer.
GO GLADIATORS!
