This past Saturday, November 30th, marked the thrilling opening round of the University Padel Staff Tournament, hosted by Sapienza Sport and organized by the University Sports Coordination of Rome. Competing under a bright sunny sky—with some fierce winds adding to the drama—teams from John Cabot University, Unicamillus, Campus Bio-Medico, and Sapienza showcased their passion and skills in an unforgettable day of competition.

Our Gladiators faced an immediate test of grit, taking on the reigning champions, Campus Bio-Medico, in the first round. The opening men’s doubles match started rocky, with a still-sleepy Massi struggling to find his rhythm. Despite an incredible effort by Marco S., the team dropped the first set.

But champions rise under pressure. Francesca P. and Corrine S. brought the house down in the women’s doubles, securing a critical victory that ignited hope and momentum heading into the decisive mixed doubles match. With fiery determination, Sara V. and Captain Marco S. delivered a masterclass, dismantling Campus Bio-Medico to secure their spot in the final showdown against Unicamillus.

The final was a battle for the ages. Massi shook off the morning’s struggles, teaming up with the unstoppable Marco S. to crush the opposition in the men’s doubles. Francesca P. and Corrine S., flawless as ever, swept their match in the women’s doubles, further solidifying John Cabot’s lead.

Despite a hard-fought loss in the mixed doubles, the team’s overall dominance earned them a well-deserved first place finish for this leg of the tournament!
