The final weeks of the university championship season brought some of the most emotional and competitive moments of the year for the JCU Gladiators.
Across soccer, tennis, volleyball, and basketball, our teams stepped onto the biggest stage of the season and represented John Cabot University with determination, resilience, and pride.
While several finals ended in narrow defeats against some of Rome’s strongest university programs, the performances throughout the postseason demonstrated how much Gladiators athletics continues to grow. From dramatic soccer battles to hard-fought volleyball rallies and intense basketball matchups, every team showed the spirit that defines JCU athletics.

The Champions League and Europa League finals week was not simply about results; it was about the journey, the progress, and the passion that every athlete brought onto the court and field.
Men’s Soccer Battles Until the Final Whistle
The Men’s Soccer team reached the Champions League Final after an impressive postseason run, earning a place in the 1st-2nd place match against Link Campus University. Facing one of the most experienced teams in the competition, the Gladiators delivered a determined performance but ultimately fell just short in a narrow 2-1 defeat.
The match reflected the growth of the squad throughout the season. JCU competed with intensity from the opening whistle, creating opportunities and keeping pressure on Link throughout the game. Even after going behind, the Gladiators continued fighting until the final minutes, refusing to let the match slip away easily.
Reaching the final itself marked an important milestone for the program. Over the course of the season, the team consistently demonstrated resilience and unity, qualities that became especially visible during the playoff run. The final showcased a group that has developed into a serious contender within the Universities of Rome Championship.
Though the trophy narrowly escaped the Gladiators, the performance reinforced the team’s progress and set a strong foundation for future seasons.

Women’s 5v5 Soccer Finishes Strong with a Victory
One of the brightest moments of finals week came from the Women’s 5v5 Soccer team, who secured a 2-0 victory over Foro Italico in the Champions League 3rd-4th place match.
The Gladiators controlled the game with confidence and composure, producing a disciplined defensive performance while capitalizing on their scoring opportunities. The shutout victory highlighted the chemistry and organization that defined the team all season long.
Women’s soccer has consistently been one of the strongest programs within Gladiators athletics, and this season continued that tradition. Throughout the championship campaign, the team demonstrated both attacking quality and defensive consistency, competing against some of the best university squads in Rome.

Closing the year with a victory allowed the team to celebrate the season on a positive note and once again confirm its place among the top programs in the competition.
Coed Tennis Reaches the Champions League Final
The Coed Tennis team also earned a place in the Champions League Final, facing Link Campus University in the 1st-2nd place matchup.
Despite the final result ending 2-0 in favor of Link, the Gladiators should be proud of a remarkable season that showcased consistency, growth, and determination. The team fought hard throughout the championship and proved capable of competing at the highest level of university tennis.
One of the most impressive aspects of the tennis program has been its development over recent seasons. As one of the younger teams in the Gladiators athletic department, the squad has steadily improved through commitment and teamwork, building a strong competitive identity along the way.

Reaching the final was a significant accomplishment and another step forward for a program that continues to gain experience and confidence every season.
Volleyball Team Competes for Europa League Title
The Coed Volleyball team entered the Europa League Final determined to finish their season with a championship, taking on Lumsa in the 1st-2nd place match.
Although Lumsa secured the victory in straight sets, the Gladiators competed with energy and determination throughout the contest. The team continued battling for every point and showed the resilience that had carried them through the season.
Volleyball has been one of the fastest-growing programs at JCU in recent years. Throughout the year, the team demonstrated strong chemistry, adaptability, and commitment despite facing difficult opponents across the league schedule.

Their appearance in the Europa League Final reflects the progress the program has made and highlights the competitive culture being built within Gladiators volleyball.
Women’s Basketball Caps Off an Impressive Season
The Women’s Basketball team also reached an important level of growth and improvement throughout the first edition of this championship, and faced Link Campus University in the finals.
Despite the loss, the Gladiators once again demonstrated tremendous fight and competitiveness against one of the top programs in the league. Throughout the season, the team consistently showed resilience, teamwork, and intensity, qualities that helped carry them deep into postseason play.
Every game this season reflected the growth of the basketball program, which continues to establish itself as a growing presence within JCU athletics, building the momentum heading into next year.
