Hall of Fame

  • Sports Awards

The Sports Award is given to those students who have made an outstanding contribution to JCU Sports and Recreation. It is awarded to students who have exceeded in all areas of athletics: administration work, volunteering, practicing sports as well as demonstrating commitment and sportsmanship at all times.

Nicholas Modlin – 2022

Nicholas was an exceptional student. It is rare to come across someone as proactive and pragmatic as him, with a genuine passion for sports. His contribution to the Athletics Department and overall physical activity at JCU has been incredibly valuable. Thanks to his enthusiasm, he was able to establish and lead the Run Club, a long-standing dream of ours since our early days at JCU. His sense of community has always been a tremendous asset, whether it was assisting us in Alessandro’s charity sports events or actively participating in our Strava Challenges to foster the JCU spirit. Moreover, the fact that all of his actions were done on a voluntary basis further amplifies our appreciation for his efforts.

Flaminia Giacomi – 2021

The 2021 Sports Award is a recognition of a great 3-year student-athlete career and its outstanding contribution to JCU Sports and Recreation. Flaminia has been an important leader on the court as the Volleyball Team Captain, representing JCU in Rome and Europe. Additionally, she has been a professional and reliable employee while working for the JCU Athletics office. She truly deserves this award for her dedication, commitment, and willingness to be involved in our Department.

Veronica Rusich – 2019

Veronica is a model student, and she is the living proof of how it is possible to combine high academic profit with a parallel working and sports life. Besides working as a student assistant at the Athletics Department for some time, Veronica took a key role in maintaining and developing volleyball at John Cabot. As a great athlete and sports passionate, she was able to join our team as a leader, playing the role of captain and assistant coach, and in some circumstances, succeeding in replacing our head coach too. Veronica, as a great sportswoman, has always shown a sense of commendable belonging to JCU, displaying all those values written on the Olympic Chart, such as brotherhood and respect for their teammates and coaches, both inside and outside the court.

Marco Fortuna – 2018

The Sport Award 2018 goes to Marco Fortuna, a student that brought to JCU Athletics nothing but excellence. He started to work with us during the Fall 2014 semester and little by little, he became the leader of our student assistant crew and took a strategic role during our orientation weeks. He was not only the student worker that every supervisor would only hope to have, but he consistently gave a lot of energy and dedication while representing JCU in the University of Rome tournaments. Playing at first on the 11 vs 11 soccer team, he eventually became the captain of our 5 vs 5 team, elevating our JCU colors to a more advanced level each year. He is a good midfielder, inside and outside the field, always ready to tackle and smart enough to provide good passes to his teammates.

Valeria Muzzin – 2017

Valeria has been on women’s soccer team since her very first semester. She won the first JCU soccer championship three years ago and since last year she is our team captain. She took this big responsibility, as we had to completely renew the team from zero. She was able to be on top of this difficult situation and, thanks to her leadership and dedication, she helped us greatly in creating a fantastic group, which is actually now leading the University championship. Valeria was not just a great captain, but also one of the best student workers that the Athletics Department ever had.
Thanks to her daily commitment and her professionalism, Valeria represents a point of reference for her colleagues and a trustworthy presence for her supervisors. Valeria loves Athletics, and her passion had a big influence on her school-mates and in the growth of the Gladiator Spirit.

Lucio D’Alessandro – 2016

lucio_d'alessandro

Lucio D’Alessandro is a guy with a pleasant smile, genial and sometimes also a bit crazy! He worked hard for the Athletics department but, despite the excellent graphics and social media skills he learned at JCU, his most important values are his positive attitude and spirit. He brought many ideas and developed many project, from the Hip-Hop classes to the Flash Mobs of the student life parties, from being the 2015′ Volleyball MVP to being the Athletics Social Media coordinator.

Davide Menci – 2015

Davide Menci

Davide Menci has been a member of the “Dream Team” which won John Cabot’s first ever sports championship. Not only was he a champion on the field, but also in the office. For years, Davide was a key member in orientation and during the semesters, involving both degree-seeking and study-abroad students in all offered activities and programs. Thanks to his marketing studies, he also helped us revolutionize the departmental communication. He truly embodies the Gladiator Spirit!

Fares Moussa – 2014

Fares, a Lebanese national Muay Thai champion, was an influential member of John Cabot community. During his time at JCU, Fares participated in many sports and worked hard for the Athletics Department. Fares also founded the “JCU Martial Arts Club”, which won several competitions in Italy.

Victoria Di Castro Horn – 2014

All around athlete, Victoria is a regional Hammer Throw champion. In 2013 and 2014, Victoria ranked in the top 10 for hammer throwing, making it to Nationals both years. Victoria was also a member of the Lady Gladiators Soccer Team, and worked at the JCU Athletics Department for four years.

Luke Norian – 2013

Luke Norian of the class of 2013 actively participated in the activities offered in the athletics department. Not only was he a participant, but he also taught courses and conducted the running club as well. Luke’s presence has become a reference for all in creating a stimulating environment in the John Cabot community.
