The first round of Gladiators tryouts officially started last night. The first players in action to battle on the field for a spot in one of our varsity teams were Men’s Soccer 11 vs 11 and 5 vs 5, Women’s Soccer 5 vs 5, and Coed Volleyball.
We first want to give a warm welcome to all the new and returning students.
And now that Orientation Week is over, we can start thinking about serious business, that means, the Spring 2018 Sports Season is about to begin for our varsity teams, so get ready for tryouts!!
Tryouts will be held this week starting from today Monday, January 15th until Thursday, January 18th.
Countdown has already started to our first special night of the semester. On Wednesday, January 10th the Athletics will be hosting the Gladiator Night Event at Tiber Cafè. The event will start at 8:00 pm and will include free food, music, and fun games where you can test your athletics skills.
Our varsity soccer, coed volleyball, and coed basketball teams make up a large portion of the activities that happen within JCU Athletics, but behind the games, a team is developing that could quite possibly be seen as the most important part of JCU spirit and pride…
The JCU Cheerleading team has become the voices of our players and students – we know that this Spring semester we will see this team grow!
After winning the Universities of Rome Championship last season (2016/17), our women’s soccer team, the Lady Gladiators, still remain as strong of a team as ever – even with the constant shifting of players due to the increasingly growing number of students that study abroad at JCU every semester. Nevertheless, the returning veteran players build chemistry with our new players and consistently make each semester successful. Our JCU Lady Gladiators are currently 2nd place in the league standings, right behind Foro Italico.
Another semester has come and gone, ending just as quickly as it began. Each semester, we are lucky enough to meet students from all over the world that want to participate in JCU varsity sports, either studying abroad or seeking a degree, and represent JCU pride – ultimately becoming true JCU Gladiators!
Our new segment on the Athletics blog is called, “#BeingAGladiator”, where we will interview a study abroad student and a degree-seeking student from each varsity team to find out all about them and their experiences as JCU Gladiators Continue reading “#BeingAGladiator – Men’s 11v11 Soccer”
